London 2023 - Day 1

We started off our trip to London with the flight from Jax! I was so excited about this trip - It was my early birthday present for my 40th. I had my bucket list of things I wanted to do in London, but going in November around my birthday seemed like terrible timing. Soccer season and school would be a hard thing to ask our parents to come do while we were gone, and we knew we would want to rush back. Going in the summer allowed us to take our time, see more things, and go all together! Matt had already taken off two weeks for us to go to Montana for my cousin's wedding, but it turned out that the wedding was adults only. So, we used his same two weeks and went to London instead! The flights were a little bit more, but honestly flying is so expensive no matter where you go with 6 people.

This was the boys' first flight since going to YL Trail West camp in Colorado in 2018! The boys did great on the flight over the Atlantic. I'll never forget David sitting all the way down the row from me next to his brothers, and he was eating his dinner like an old pro. Except for when he opened the little pad of butter and ate that whole. He couldn't hear any of us because he was still watching his iPad movie. hilarious.

After we arrived, we got our car and headed to our rental flat for the week. It wasn't quite ready for us, so we walked to a local cafe (almost got pick pocketed on the way) and had some espresso with our lunch/breakfast.

We got settled in our flat, and we found our local tube station. It was not so hard to learn, and we were able to go all over the city easily.

We got off at the Piccadilly Circus stop, and we got our first real look at London! It reminded me of Times Square in New York (even though I haven't been there) because of the giant television screen on the side of a building. We bought tickets for the hop on hop off bus around the city.

The streets were decorated for the celebration of the new King. I think we only missed the ceremonies by less than a month, so we got to enjoy lots of lovely decorations.

The boys had a great time playing in the classic phone booth.

Our trip was during the height of the 'Prime' craze; James had been selling Prime at school, so finding a new flavor in London was exciting, haha! Matt is so generous he bought two bottles of overpriced Lemonade Prime. We had to give it a taste test at dinner before our Agatha Christie show!

We found the Agatha Christie memorial on our way to the St. Martin's Theatre to see 'The Mousetrap'! The oldest running show in London (and the world).

This is one of my favorite pictures of our trip. So iconic with the Taxi and the flags.

I thought this would be a great choice for our first night since the boys needed to stay up to adjust to the time change. I figured if they fell asleep that would be fine-I wasn't sure if they'd enjoy this show as much as me. But to my surprise, they loved it! They all stayed awake for it, and I think they liked it more than the Harry Potter show.

Our first day in London was great! We wore ourselves out and got somewhat adjusted to the tube stations. I got to scratch one thing off my bucket list already: seeing the Mousetrap!
