hello February

Ever since David was born, February comes in with so much excitement & anticipation! David turned five this year, and after melting James' candle in his cinnamon roll, I bought these silver candle holders so that won't happen again! David's preschool closed for two weeks because of so many covid cases throughout the school, so he was home all day on his birthday. He wasn't sick, so we didn't mind! But we did postpone his birthday party until the end of the month so all his preschool friends could come.

We had breakfast together & then took his brothers to school, and David and I spent the day together. We played some video games, snuggled Hermione, and then had a little Trolls fun in the kitchen. David's favorite character from the Trolls world tour movie was 'queen Barb' who was a rock troll. We found these super fun masks of the characters, and David and I made some 'sew your own' characters too. It was a fun way to play and dance & feel like we were celebrating his birthday jus the two of us.

We picked out an ice cream cake for after dinner, and got to celebrate with Daddy & his brothers that evening. Birthdays are so much fun, no matter how you celebrate. David, I hope you know how loved you are!

After my young life talk about my favorite thing being to hunt for sharks' teeth, two of my high school friends went with me to go find some! It was a tough day for it unfortunately, but I found some little ones they could take home. We had fun though.

My sweet friend Sarah hanging out with David & I at the playground while we waited for his school to open back up one day. My bedside reading stack, so much goodness.

All the boys doing target practice in the back drive way with their BB guns. Mr. Steve brought over these amazing hand carved planes that his father made. They were even used for the pilots to practice recognizing enemy planes during the Second World War! Steve and his brother played with them as kids, and saved them in one of his old tie boxes. So so cool!!

My sweet friend Jess & I up at Jekyll Island for a soccer tournament on a super cold day. I think poor Hayden got a sunburn this day, despite the very cold temperatures! I actually thought it was a wind burn, because it was a biting wind that day. But yeah, sun burn in February can happen. Who would have thought!?

It must be nice to be this cool. It comes easily to David.

Tiger King club for young life was our opportunity to dress up on the next level. Matt as 'tiger king' and me as Carol Baskin. Classic.

I was so excited for my friend Hannah's birthday, because I found the china pattern her grandmother had & bought her a set of tea cups and saucers!! I couldn't wait for her to open it, and it was such a fun surprise! Matt&I went out to Congaree&Penn for her birthday dinner, and it was a beautiful night.

Hermione all comfy in our bed! David playing in his space ship box. Simple daily joy

My friend Jamison got her driver's license! So so crazy. I had been able to drive her back home from club and campaigners for two years, so it was bitter sweet for her to have this independence. But I was happy for her!

Mimi & Grandpa came up to town to watch some soccer & celebrate David's birthday party. James wanted to see how close he was to being as tall as Teresa! He was close! The Proses gave David a toy guitar for his 'rock and roll' birthday party, and it was so cute watching them play and sing.

It was birthday party day! We decided to have an outdoor playground party because of covid, and it was so much fun. We decorated the little pavilion after getting there super early to claim it. James and Hayden both had soccer tournament that weekend, but luckily it was in town. You couldn't beat that party- such sweet mommas and friends. We will miss that close little group from preschool!

We celebrated the good day with La Napolera and invited our buddy Zac to come along too. These boys and cheese dip are something else!

The tournament finished up on Sunday, and Hayden's team won their bracket!! He was surprised and excited; it was his first season on the 'elite travel' team with his club, and he was getting used to the level of play. He did amazing & enjoyed it so much!

Thank you Lord for February. For our cold days which are such a small part of our year, and getting to enjoy the change of pace. Thank you for David's birthday, for keeping us healthy, and for blessing us with friends and family to spend our days together. Looking back, it seems incredible how beautiful our life looks, but the daily feels so messy. Thank you Lord for the chance to tuck these memories away, safe from the fading links in my brain. Thank you for all these days of watching my boys grow up; I am forever grateful for this front row seat of their childhood. Amen.
