MMMay

May snuck in after Calvin's birthday and as our soccer seasons ended,  and our normal daily schedules shift to all the end of the year activities. May was full of field trips, parties, and celebrations for Hayden, our 6th grade graduate. It was surreal to do these graduation activities two years in a row, but comforting for me to know what to expect. Here I sit, two years later, doing it all again soon for Calvin. The Lord's timing is perfect. Thank you for helping me to remember your timing Lord.

To start May, I had to submit some pictures of Hayden for the 6th grade slide show, and these were the ones we chose. I actually thought he has chosen a picture of him as a baby, sitting on my knee looking so tough, a little baby scowl and bald head. His baby fat rolls on his arms looking like muscles, ha! But this one from Uncle John's wedding is just adorable. You can't beat how cute he looked.

Hayden's class got to take their field trip to Wild Adventures in GA after all their testing was finished. He had a blast riding rides all day; the lines were super short. The water ride let them go three times before getting off!

I know this was a nice highlight before all the emotional events that came with the end of the year. But the thing I remember from this day was Coach Adam calling about his team. :-( Regardless, such a fun day and trip! Thankful I was able to go.

This is us at the Hula Hustle 5K for Young Life in Clay County. We try to run it every year, but it doesn't always work out. How cute are these boys!?

Calvin and I got to go to the MOSH in downtown Jacksonville, which we loved. It was a little bit disappointing because the exhibits in the middle were closed, but you can't really help but have fun with all your friends running around outside of school for a day. Loved getting to go with him!

Mrs. Eva helped me surprise Mr. Harris by making a quilt of all his blood donation T-shirts! He had been asking on facebook about getting a quilt made, so I had the idea to ask Mrs. Eva. I'll never forget what she said about wishing she had made one with Mr. Steve's old T-shirts too. I think in a way, it was kind of like she got to. Mr. Harris loved it, and I hope it is something he can enjoy for years to come.

I was in Mrs. Viola's room one day, and I saw this on her shelf. It is a snoopy house that James painted at Calvin's 3 year old birthday party. He gave it to Mrs. Viola when she was his kindergarten teacher; I'm not sure I even know he had done that. But I saw it, and it made me so nostalgic! Silly and wonderful how something so small and insignificant can be so lovely.

End of the year soccer party for David, and Hayden making his signature face for the summer of 2023. So cute and funny, these two.

James at his 7th grade awards ceremony. His hair though!! Could be the longerst it has ever been. I believe this award is for AB Honor Roll in 7th grade. Super proud of his hard work! Junior high study skills were hard on him (and his daddy & me too!).

The day Hayden had been waiting for: the 6th grade vs. Faculty kickball game! These boys wanted to win so badly, and they were ahead for the entire game. The last inning the teachers managed (cheated) to tie the game. It was such a kick in the teeth; I have never before or again been so upset at a school event.

Some one else took this picture because I left. I couldn't handle myself this day for whatever reason.

I did come back for the picnic with the 6th grade, and Hayden had a nice time. It is funny in hindsight because I'm so glad for him to be away from a couple of these kids who just made everything a drama. But Hayden's last year at OPE was a good one; he did amazing despite the kids I'm thinking of.

David with his favorite Coach Christ and Mrs. Susan. He came to watch David play a game and cheer him on. So kind!

Oh my sweet Isabelle graduated OPHS!! I can't believe this girl who I really got to watch grow up in high school is finished and moving on to college. So proud of your Isabelle!

Hayden's 6th grade dance, and our boy was all set in his blazer with the gold buttons. His favorite!

His friend group got some pictures taken down off River Road. It was fun to see them all dressed up!

Calvin's end of the year soccer party with Coach Nick. Lots of this team got split up the following season, but it was a fun little team!

Calvin's awards ceremony for 4th quarter included his robotics award which was one of my favorites! He got the dinosaur mission from their lego board, and it has his name on the side. Love it!

His teammates Cohen and Lydia with their mission awards.

I don't remember why I was supposed to stay and eat pizza with Calvin, but I do remember it was raining. We sat close to the wall under the roofline and enjoyed ourselves.

Last day of 7th grade Grumpy's breakfast for James. I love this tradition.

Mimi and Grandpa came for Hayden's 6th grade promotion ceremony, and it was so sweet to have them come celebrate with us. I was once again too proud and happy to cry, but the Rise up with Ian award really gives me a run for my money every time. Hayden was very proud and happy too. He got the awards he was hoping for, and overall did so very well. We couldn't be more proud!

Hayden with Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Pounds, and Mrs. Gullet- his K/1st, 2nd. and 3rd grade teachers. The sweetest!!

And there you have it: Last day of 1st grade for David; Last day of 4th for Calvin; Last day of 6th for Hayden; Last day of 7th for James.

Hayden went bowling with some friends after school ended, and Calvin went to Gage's end of the year party. David went swimming with a friend Eli. These boys keep me on my toes!

Sweet Mrs. Bowie! We will miss you! (but I won't miss that hair cut of James' yikes! It got out of control)

A start of summer cold snap and baseball game for the Jumbo Shrimp!

Calvin wanted to go to an escape room for his birthday, and it took us a while to make that happen. But we did it, and we escaped! Barely!

Thank you Lord for helping me walk back through these memories. It seems silly that I have a hard time watching my boys grow up, but also very much enjoy looking back. Such a bitter sweet gift in the passage of time. Lord help me forgive and move past parts of our life that hurt my feelings. Thank you for your healing and forgiveness that I can have. Lord thank you for helping us through the difficult moments of this school year; I can still remember some of them so clearly. Thank you for the blessing of days with my sons, I am so grateful for each and every day. Amen!
